Ending 2016 by rolling up my sleeves and deeply immersing myself in a dialogue of abstraction in my painting. Exploring concerns of layering, juxtaposition of more defined graphic lines and symmetry in composition with the organic, looser qualities of paint, water and the elements of surprise and mystery.
At the end of of each year, I look back on the year's work and ask myself what painting stands out for me as a pinnacle of inspiration for future paintings. The painting, "Quench" synthesizes the opposites of free flowing qualities of paint and deliberate calligraphic painted lines. I'm excited to move forward and embrace discoveries in my recent paintings in the new year.
