Hello from Santa Fe!
Spring is finally here in New Mexico after an extremely dry winter, with much teasing by infrequent snowflakes. We will be accepting water in any form possible...pray for it, dance for it, fedex it...
Southwest Art Article
My news this spring is a great feature article in the April issue of SOUTHWEST ART Magazine. "Of Place and Time: Betsy Bauer's layered paintings and collages capture the rhythms of a place" by Dotty Indyke.
"Personal relationship with place exists at the heart of Betsy Bauer's
artwork, and two places in particular, which are the very opposites of one
another in mood and palette. In Italy, she draws inspiration from the spirit
and intrigue of ruins that connect contemporary humans with their ancient
counterparts, from the sweeping drama of opera, and the rolling, cypress-accented

Upcoming Exhibitions
The next upcoming exhibit I am participating in locally is Friday, April 7th, "Site Unseen 4" at Santa Fe's International Art Space, SITE Santa Fe. It's a great, lively fundraiser where artists create several 5" x 7" works of art and sign them on the back only. Once the piece is purchased the artist's name is revealed.
Please also look for the upcoming card mailing for my Santa Fe solo exhibit, June 30th, at Hahn Ross Gallery in Santa Fe. We are planning to produce a catalog for the show which will be available through the gallery or my website. I am excited to be having a show this year, as this is my first solo exhibit since 2002. I had the opportunity to live and paint in Italy and England for two years. The paintings will be an overview of work from my time in Europe and the past two years back in my Santa Fe studio. I will be attending the opening reception and hope to see many of you out at the show to help me celebrate!
Santa Fe Opera
My solo exhibit at Hahn Ross Gallery opens the night of the opening of the Santa Fe Opera. The Opera has asked me to create images of Carmen, Magic Flute and Cendrillon to be used on note cards and other items for their gift shop, especially for their 50th anniversary. I feel honored to work with the Opera again this year. Look for more info in upcoming newsletters.
Please be sure to visit my website, as new sections have been added and updated. As always, I appreciate all the enthusiasm for my art and want to thank each and every one of you for your patronage and support, it makes all the difference!
Warm regards,
Betsy Bauer
