Betsy Bauer, artist, Santa Fe, Italy, England

Biography

Betsy Bauer, 2005

Betsy Bauer's rich layered paintings of botanical images, flowers and landscapes have long been influenced by the scenery and music of Italy. She has traveled extensively throughout the country, collecting antique sheet music, old book pages and manuscripts. Inspiration for her work derives from the gracious contours of hand-lettered words and the rhythms of musical notation layered over the patterns of clouds and cypress trees in landscapes traversed by narrow dirt roads. Her work evokes Italian Opera, the spirit of the people, the warm, weathered colors of Tuscany, and the sense of layers of age in crumbling walls and Italian Old Master paintings.

Bauer's paintings and prints are held in museum, corporate and private collections around the world. Since 1985, she has had numerous solo shows in New York City and Santa Fe, NM. Her art hangs in the US Embassies in Sarajevo and La Paz, Bolivia, and in many collections, including the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC, American Express in NY and General Electric in CT.

Betsy Bauer was born in New Jersey, 1959 and now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
